Interdisciplinary Studies
Main Content
The Interdisciplinary Studies major offers an opportunity for students to create their own pathway toward graduation. Students will be able to tailor their own basic educational courses by designing an interdisciplinary program of study that will lead toward a Bachelor of Arts degree.
The major requires students to select at least two areas of focus. Combined, the areas of focus must total at least 42 credit hours and can include established minors and certificates offered within the university, with additional coursework as necessary to complement those areas of focus. Students can also create their own areas of focus in consultation with their faculty advisor in the College of Liberal Arts. Students must meet with a faculty advisor to select their specific areas of focus or to design their own. Each area of focus must be comprised of a group of courses totaling at least 12 credit hours. Self-designed areas of focus done in coordination with a faculty advisor are encouraged.
Like other majors in the College of Liberal Arts, students in the Interdisciplinary Studies program must successfully complete two courses providing a global or comparative perspective on the world (see section 2(c) of the College of Liberal Arts academic requirements located in the Catalog for a complete listing of courses) and the College’s foreign language requirement. Students must also take any other courses required by the College of Liberal Arts as described in the course catalog.
